Companies House ID
Verification FAQ
Companies House ID verification is a new legal requirement that will require company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) to prove their identity. The aim is to ensure that the individuals listed on the Companies House register are genuine and accountable. Verification must be completed before someone can act as a director, form a company, or register as a PSC.
The updated ID verification rules apply to company directors and people with significant control (PSCs). These individuals are now required to complete ID verification before they can carry out certain actions relating to the company.
A person with significant control – or PSC for short – is someone who has significant influence or control over a company. This usually includes individuals who own a certain amount of company shares, have the right to appoint or remove directors, or otherwise exercise significant influence over the company’s operations. PSCs must complete Companies House ID verification under the new rules.
Companies House identity verification has been mandatory since 18th November 2025. New company directors and PSCs must now verify their identity when they are appointed, while existing directors and PSCs have twelve months from the above date to get verified. These changes form part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, which aims to improve the accuracy of the Companies House register.
Identify verification can be completed through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) like Cross Accounting. Using an ACSP can make the process simpler and more secure, as they will ensure that the verification is carried out correctly and submitted through the proper channels.
